Silverstone is one of the world’s most iconic racing circuits, forever etched into motorsport folklore as host of the first Formula 1 World Championship race in 1950. And next weekend (20/21 September) Andrew Rackstraw will be aiming to write his own chapter of Silverstone history, as he pushes towards the Porsche Carrera Cup GB title in his Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport 911 GT3.

The 23-year old South African driver arrives at the ‘Home of British Motor Racing’ for the penultimate race weekend in the UK’s fastest single-make series lying second in the Pro category standings, just eight points behind the leader.

Rounds 13 and 14 will take place on the 1.85-mile Silverstone National Circuit. It might only contain six corners, but the famous Copse, Becketts and Brooklands turns all offer great overtaking opportunities, and car set-up is ultra-important to maximise performance on the fast and flat layout.

Andrew enjoyed great success at Silverstone last year, winning the Jim Walsh Trophy United Formula Ford race and finishing runner-up in the prestigious Formula Ford Walter Hayes Trophy. However, weather can play a big part in proceedings – and last year’s Porsche Carrera Cup GB race meeting was one to forget for Andrew, as heavy autumn showers made conditions extremely difficult and a gamble to use slick tyres in the final race compounded a tricky weekend.

Andrew arrives at Silverstone on great form, after a truly wonderful season his Rosland Gold/Investchem/Sparco-backed Porsche. Indeed, he is the only one of the top three Pro category drivers to have completed all 256 racing laps and scored points in every race so far.

“I’m really looking forward to Silverstone, because it’s such a great and iconic venue to race at,” says Andrew.

“After six races in August, I’ve enjoyed a break away from motorsport with my family and I’ve come back refreshed, recharged and raring to go. Mentally and physically, I feel stronger than I’ve ever been before.

“The Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport team and I have a good plan of what to do and we’ll be focusing on ourselves and not worrying about all those uncontrollable factors that try to distract you at a race weekend. It’s all about maximising everything that we can control, and if we do that then I’m sure the results we’re targeting at Silverstone will be our reward.

“With that mindset, the team and I feel super confident that we’ll be going for race wins at Silverstone – and that’s what we need to be doing to win the Porsche Carrera Cup GB title.”
