We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Wade Nelson, former World 250cc Karting Champion, who passed away on 10 July 2025 at the age of 67.

Wade’s journey started in Pietermaritzburg, racing homemade karts on dusty roads and dreaming big. In 1986, against all odds and in the pouring rain, he claimed the World Karting Championship title, a win that shocked the motorsport world and inspired a generation back home.

His story was one of grit, passion, and a never give up attitude. Wade showed South Africa and the world what determination can achieve, even without the best equipment or resources.

He was not just a champion on track. Wade gave back to the sport and later worked to make South African roads safer, always staying true to his roots and the people around him.

Rest easy, Wade. Your race is run but your legacy will always live on.
