Motorsport South Africa (MSA) announces that Chris Coertse has stepped down as Chairman of the MSA Rally Working Group after many years of dedicated service. During his tenure, Chris played a pivotal role in revitalising the South African National Rally Championship (NRC), particularly after the withdrawal of manufacturer support in 2016. His vision and leadership were instrumental in stabilising the sport and fostering its growth.

Chris was the driving force behind the creation of Rally Technic, which introduced an innovative 4-wheel drive class of rally cars. He also spearheaded the development of new regulations for top-tier rallying, which significantly increased competitor participation in the NRC.

In addition to his administrative contributions, Chris is an accomplished rally driver, having won the South African driver’s title in 2022 and 2024 with a Rally Technic-built car. His commitment to rallying extended beyond his official roles; he generously provided financial support to the NRC, employed staff to assist with event organisation, and made his personal vehicle available for use by the organisers.

Motorsport South Africa extends its deepest gratitude to Chris for his unwavering dedication and numerous contributions to South African rallying. His efforts have left an indelible mark on the sport, and his legacy will be remembered for years to come.

MSA wishes Chris all the best in his business ventures and future motorsport endeavours, confident that his passion and expertise will continue to benefit the motorsport community.
