Ruche Moodley is a name that is well known to motorcycle racing fans around South Africa. The teenager has been competing in the 2025 Moto3 World Championship as part of the BOE Motorsports squad.

Moodley has made an exceptional start to his rookie season in the world championship series. He has regularly scored points and is gaining pace with each passing race.

Unfortunately, the Gqberha-born teen suffered a painful crash at round five in Spain a few weeks ago. The incident took place on the opening lap when a mechanical issue meant Moodley couldn’t slow his bike in time for a low-speed corner. The crash resulted in a fractured radius in his right hand.

He underwent surgery in Barcelona the day after the incident. Doctors repaired the fracture with a titanium plate and half a dozen screws. Following his return from hospital, Ruche started to expedite his healing process.

“It was really frustrating not to be able to race. From the moment I returned from the hospital I started training again. I was on the static training bicycle to maintain my fitness levels. We also started physio the moment I regained enough strength.”
But a fractured bone doesn’t heal in a few days and Moodley had to miss out on the French round of the 2025 season, which took place at Le Mans.

Following a visit to his doctor in Spain, Moodley was given the go-ahead to race again, having missed just a single round. The final clearance to compete, however, can only be granted by the medical team of series organisers, the FIM. Ruche has since been given the all clear to race at this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
“It feels great to return to racing. I am so looking forward to getting back on the bike. It’s terrible to watch a Moto3 event on TV, knowing that I should be on that grid. I know it won’t be easy as my arm is still healing, but I am looking forward to getting back into the saddle,” concluded Moodley.

Unfortunately, the crash in Spain also resulted in Moodley being penalised with a double long lap penalty for the British race, so it will definitely be a challenging weekend for the youngster.
