Julian Fameliaris will be looking to push for a Mobil 1 V8 Supercars victory this coming weekend (July 1-2) at Red Star Raceway.

A double-podium second round sees the Lube-Net Chevrolet Corvette driver occupying fourth place on the points table. It is, however, not only his latest results that see him confident ahead of the race weekend.

“Our results are really just the product of the hard work that went this car since the start of the season” says Famelieris. “The Di Matteo Racing team has put in a lot of effort. Last time out, we had a superb weekend. Gone were the mechanical issues and we had good pace throughout. It was really as perfect as a race weekend can be without winning. That is certainly an aspect that we want to change this weekend. We will need to start winning to get closer to the front of the championship battle.”

The Red Star Raceway circuit itself may also play a big part in this weekend’s pecking order. This will be the first time since 2017 that the anti-clockwise layout of the circuit will be used for a Mobil 1 V8 Supercars round.

“It will be somewhat of a new circuit for many of us. While some of the guys competed in this series in 2017, five years is a long time. Some others have raced in other categories in the last few years, but on such a technical circuit, we are all sort of equal at present regarding preparation. So it will come down to who will be able to perfect their setups early on and that will certainly be our goal come the weekend.”

Saturday’s two 10-lap races are scheduled to start at 11:05 and 14:10. Spectator tickets can be purchased directly from Red Star Raceway at R100.00 per person, while children under 12 years enter for free. The full Extreme Festival event will also be streamed live on the Julian Fameliaris Racing  Facebook page and the 2WheelsTV YouTube channel.
