Warren Lombard aims to build on strengths this coming weekend (July 1-2) in search of a strong result in Round 3 of the Mobil 1 V8 Supercars Championship at Red Star Raceway.
The PepBoys Automotive Ford Falcon driver currently occupies fifth place on the points table, but knows that there is potential to move upwards with a good pair of results.
“Realistically, I believe we could’ve looked at a third place at this point of the season” says Lombard. “A mistake and technical issues likely cost us about 30 points earlier this year. So we know that we have the pace to compete at the front and this is what we will be channelling this coming weekend at Red Star.”
Two-thirds into a six-round championship, but with a double points-paying coastal round still ahead, Lombard emphasises the importance of capitalising on every opportunity.
“You’re never going to have a season where everything will be running perfectly and the important thing for us now is, approaching every session that lies ahead like we can’t afford to give anything but our best. Our first goal is the weekend that lies ahead. Unlike our previous visits to Red Star, this is the first time in five years that the Mobil 1 V8 Supercars will be racing around the clockwise circuit layout. It will be like learning a new circuit for a lot of us and we have shown in Cape Town last year that we can adapt to a new circuit very quickly. After that, it is off to Cape Town, where we have good form to build on. The middle part of this season can make or break our championship; I’m banking on the making option.”
Saturday’s two 10-lap races are scheduled to start at 11:05 and 14:10. Spectator tickets can be purchased directly from Red Star Raceway at R100.00 per person, while children under 12 years enter for free. The full Extreme Festival event will be streamed live on the Warren Lombard Racing Facebook page and the 2WheelsTV YouTube channel.
Warren Lombard would like to express his gratitude to the following partners for making his 20212campaign possible: PepBoys Automotive, Hi Tech Mag Repairs and Gavin Wilkins Racing.
