June 23, 2022
It was a baptism of fire for Josh Le Roux last weekend (18 / 19 June) at the Avon British Formula Ford Championship round held at Anglesey.

Josh was challenged not only by a circuit he had never raced at before, but also a car he had never driven before. Despite being thrown into the deep end, Josh put in a commendable qualifying performance to put himself 11th on the grid.

In an impressive drive, he worked him way up the field, to take the flag in sixth place. Josh put in another outstanding performance in the second heat, crossing the finish line seventh.

The final heat of the day started from a reversed grid, which put Josh on pole position. The young South African held his own, holding onto the initial race lead. He slowly dropped down the field as the regular drivers progressed to the front of the pack. Unfortunately, some overly aggressive driving from one of the competitors saw a big shunt that left Josh spinning out of the race with just three minutes remaining on the clock.

“It was an amazing experience. The drivers are definitely more robust and frantic than what we experience in South Africa. I think my fellow South African drivers definitely show each other a bit more respect and consideration. That being said, the teams and organisers were very welcoming,” commented Josh.

“Thank you to everyone who made this possible and to everyone for their overwhelming support. I definitely left the UK feeling proudly South African,” he concluded.

Josh now shifts his focus to round four of the Investchem Formula Ford Championship which will be taking place at Redstar Raceway on 2 July.

Josh is proudly sponsored by: New Heights, RDSA, Investchem, Master Stairs.
