CORNOFSKY WINS KID ROK BATTLE, CLAIMS MAIDEN VICTORY
June 22, 2022
Kid ROK rookie Kayde Cornofsky became Gauteng's latest winner following a maiden victory at Round 4 of MSA's Northern Regions Regional Karting Championship on June 18.

Arriving at Formula-K Kart Circuit in Benoni on the back of a strong outing at the previous round, the Xtreme Racing Team driver put together an impressive performance to finish within the top three in each heat and take home a large haul of championship points.

Starting from third in the opening heat, Cornofsky put on an impressive driving display to beat out some more favoured competitors to claim his first victory in his rookie season. He would continue that form in Heat 2, where another battle between the same three competitors eventually ensued after Cornofsky had to make his way to the front from as far back as eighth. Pushing his RS kart to the limit, Cornofsky would have to settle for the runner-up position after crossing the line alongside the winner with only 0.098 seconds separating them.

The final heat would see Cornofsky finish third after fighting for the lead with a lap remaining. An incident saw Cornofsky lose out, run off the circuit and lose a position before rejoining the race to take the chequered flag and the final podium position. After the day's results were tallied, Cornofsky claimed the overall victory to end a rewarding day of racing for the Johannesburg youngster.

"I'm pleased to have won the overall result and stand on top of the podium today. It was also great winning my first race, and I came very close to winning another. Well done to all the drivers today and thank you to my team."

Cornofsky extends his thanks to Canario Cornofsky Attorneys, Calisto's Portuguese Restaurant, Allegiance Properties,  Smith Garage and the Xtreme Racing Team.

While Round 5 of the regional championship resumes on August 6, Cornofsky will head down the N3 to iDube Raceway for the third national championship round scheduled for July 8-9.
