Covid 19 took its toll on the Praga entries for the third round of the South African Rok Cup, held at Idube Raceway on 26 June 2021, but the brand were still exceptionally well represented by Santiago Frade and Manelisi Nkomo.
Santiago Frade had a fantastic weekend in Bambinos. He set the third fastest qualifying lap and after a fantastic start, found himself leading the field. Santiago took the race win. He put in another strong performance in the second heat to once again take the chequered flag in the number one spot. After a race long, head to head battle for the lead, Santiago finished the final heat second. Santiago ended the day first overall.
Manelisi Nkomo took on the super competitive Mini Rok field, but his story is more one of compassion and sportsmanship than outright results. After qualifying in 14th place, Manelisi put in a solid drive to hold his position to the flag. Race two did not start off on a good note, with a massive accident putting a stop to proceedings. Manelisi was collateral damage as he joined the numerous karts spinning off circuit. Whilst he could have got going again, Manelisi instead jumped out of his kart without a moment’s hesitation and together with two other competitors rushed to the aid of an injured driver, assisting him safely off the circuit and supporting him as the medic attended to him.
Manelisi went on to finish tenth after the race was restarted. He took a commendable ninth place finish in the final heat and placed 12th in the overall standings.
Praga wish all of their teams, competitors, fans and support staff good health amidst the third wave of the Corona virus which is battering South Africa at the moment.
