It was a tough weekend for RS Kart at iDube Raceway, but given the strange year that 2020 has been, any opportunity to race is enthusiastically attended and enjoyed, regardless of the results.
Mattao Mason didn’t have things all his own way after a difficult qualifying session put him 7th on the grid. He had a great first race, making up ground to end in 5th place. A solid drive saw Mattao finish in 6th place in both remaining heats. He ended 6th in the overall standings for the day.
It wasn't a dream debut for Troy van der Laan. He qualified on the third row of the grid, but was unfortunately unable to complete race one, which left him with a mountain of work to do. Troy was back on track for heat two, where he crossed the finish line in 7th place. He took another 7th place finish in heat three and finished seventh overall for the weekend.
Luke Hill had a better day than his teammates, although it was a quite a challenging qualifying session. Luke set the tenth fastest lap, but made short work of getting through the field in heat one, claiming 6th place. Some good racing saw him take the chequered flag 6th in heat two before taking an 8th place finish in the final heat. Luke ended the day 6th overall in the overall Mini Rok standings and 2nd in the under-10 division.
The team will have one more National and Northern Regions Rok Cup race this season, which is scheduled to take place at Zwartkops Raceway on 12 December 2020.
