Deon Holliday Jnr scored another double podium result in the second round of the 2019 MotorMart VW Challenge, following two fiercely contested races at Zwartkops Raceway last weekend in the #44 Monitor Net Volkswagen Polo.

Having already achieved two podium-place finishes at Round 1 at Red Star Raceway last month, the Centurion-based driver turned his fortunes around from a challenging qualifying session to earn two runner-up finishes at Zwartkops Raceway.

Friday practice saw Holliday Jnr top the latter two of three practice sessions while finalising his setup, but unfortunately could only manage fifth place on the Class B starting grid after qualifying, despite his best time being only 0.5 seconds shy of pole position.

The first race saw Holliday Jnr rapidly slotting into second place during lap one, demonstrating skill to keep the pack behind him at bay. Competing against rivals such as Jacques Smith, Stuart Mack, Charisse van der Merwe and Deon Holliday Snr, the current Class B title holder kept applying the pressure to take runner-up honours after a fiercely contested 10-lap race.

With Saturday afternoon’s programme being changed by event organisers, the swift rescheduling of the MotorMart VW Challenge left teams with an hour less of preparation time. Holliday Jnr finished in third positon following an entertaining tussle with Richie Napier and Jacques Smith. Shortly after the completion of the race, Holliday Jnr was elevated to second place following the disqualification of race-winner Stiaan Kriel.

“We’ve added another solid host of points to our 2019 tally, despite not starting exactly where we wanted to,” said Holliday Jnr. “We had two good races today and showed the pace that we displayed during Friday. Fortunately, our Race 1 grid position did not hamper us too much, although we do believe that had we started from a higher grid position, we would’ve been in the position to challenge for the lead.”

Deon Holliday Jnr would like to thank his sponsors Monitor Net, Centpart Motorparts, Fastprinting & Signs and Centworx for making his 2019 season possible.

In addition, he would also like to acknowledge and thank the associate sponsors of the MotorMart VW Challenge for making this exciting category possible: Norbrake Distribution, ATE Brakes, Dicktator Engine Management Systems, Yaskawa, Pozidrive and BPM Engineering.

Round 3 of the 2019 MotorMart VW Challenge Championship will be held at Midvaal Raceway from April 12-13.
