Motorsport South Africa is among the first FIA National Sporting Authorities (ASNs) to have engaged in the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme, following its renewal in June of this year, and one of the firsts to be certified.

This achievement was officially acknowledged by the FIA during the ASN Forum held in St Petersburg (Russia), on Thursday 6th December 2018.

The FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme is aimed at helping motor sport stakeholders worldwide to measure and enhance their environmental performance. It introduces clear and consistent environmental management into motor sport and provides stakeholders with a framework against which to accredit their activities.

The FIA Auditor was particularly impressed by MSA’s strong commitment toward environmental management, under guidance of the MSA Environmental Panel.

Auditor Summary:
Motorsport South Africa (MSA) indicates a strong commitment toward environmental management. The MSA has developed its own robust Environmental Management System and is also following the FIM guidelines, with a clear willingness to continually improve.

It should be noted that the MSA has implemented a solid 2018 work plan for its Environmental Panel. Headed by Marius Matthee, a clearly committed Environmental Champion, this Panel has been given specific objectives, with assigned responsible people and expected completion dates. This is the sign of a benchmark level of Environmental Management, and the FIA Auditor believes that the MSA has the capacity to progress toward higher-level accreditation in the near future.

Adrian Scholtz, CEO of MSA, says that: “MSA looks forward to continued collaboration with the FIA and to improve our environmental and sustainability strategy and objectives. The certification also serves as reward for all South African motorsport role-players, volunteers and MSA Staff. It will also serve as encouragement for the local motorsport fraternity to embrace all aspects of sustainability and to explore benefits it holds for local motorsport”.
