Entering the last month of 2018, Red Bull KTM’s Motocross team already has their focus set on 2019. The existing line up of multiple South African champions is adding one more exciting name to their list of championship contenders - the young and talented Tristan Purdon who will tackle both the MX1 and MX2 classes in 2019.

Franziska Brandl, Managing Director of KTM South Africa, about the latest Red Bull KTM signing: “We’re excited to add more young talent to our stable. Tristan is a driven and talented individual and will be a great addition to the team that has a great balance of enthusiastic youngsters as well as seasoned riders. Being able to learn from each other and support each other, we believe this is the recipe for success. We have no doubt Tristan will bring home many podiums in 2019 and are convinced that there will be more titles that he is going to add to his name in the future."

“I’m really blessed and grateful for this great opportunity that Red Bull KTM have given me for the 2019 season. I’m looking forward to working with everyone on the team and I’m excited to get racing on my new bikes. 2019 is going to be a good year for me and my new team and I look forward to bringing them race wins and championships.”, says and equally excited Tristan Purdon.

Born in East London, Tristan grew up on a farm at the top of the Nico Malan Pass in the Cathcart district of the Eastern Cape where he started riding at only three years old. At the age of five his father took him to the local Motocross track in East London where Tristan’s love for Motocross began. He raced his first race in 2003, did several club races that year and quickly progressed from there with his mom Lynne and dad Roger continuously supporting Tristan in reaching his dreams.

2004 marked his first full year of racing in the regional Border (Eastern Cape) championship where he piloted his KTM 50 SX to an impressive second place overall and was unbeaten in the following two years to come. At only eight years old, he started taking on the National series in the 65cc class and fast forwarding to 2018 he proudly holds two National Pro Mini championship titles and a MX1 National championship title that he added to his name in his rookie year in this highly competitive class.

The now 21-year-old is still based at the family farm today and runs a strict training programme from there. Finishing the 2018 season in third place in both the MX1 and MX2 classes respectively, Tristan has his eyes set on the number plate again and is fully aware of the hard work that he needs to put in with 2019 seeing extended heats in MX1, making it an even bigger challenge conquering both classes.
