Quinton Needham will be competing at the Zwartkops Raceway season finale of the 2018 MotorMart VW Challenge as privateer driver. Saturday, November 10 will also be his final campaign in the category prior to his move to the United States of America.
On Monday, November 5, the MotorMart Racing Team announced that the season finale will see them implementing changes ahead of their 2019 campaign. With Needham’s move abroad, this saw him omitted from the team’s line-up, but he still retained his MotorMart Klerksdorp as one of his sponsors for the final round with 2017 partner Tron Lubricants taking up title sponsorship again.
“My decision to move to the USA is purely based on professional grounds.” Says Needham. “Given the present South African environment, there are a lot of people who would like to take this step. An opportunity presented itself and I’m taking this up. I do have plans to keep racing while there, but for now I can’t elaborate on this in too much detail.”
Needham’s career in the category started in 2007 with a once-off drive in Class B at the Phakisa Freeway. He continued in this class as regular driver for a further three years prior to moving to Class A at the end of 2010. Following the 2012 season he retired from the championship; returning during 2016 to Class B. With three races remaining in the 2017 season he again shifted to Class A. 2018 saw him competing in Class A for the MotorMart Racing Team.
“Racing has always been a passion for me and through this passion I’ve learned quite a lot about race setup. I’ve never won a championship and I’ve certainly had more bad luck than good luck. I have however made a host of good friends and there’s never been a day at the circuit which I didn’t enjoy.”
Following a host of reliability issues, Needham comes into the season finale on the back of two strong finishes: “We’ve had two good races in the last round which was also held at Zwartkops Raceway. If we can continue this momentum in Round 8, it will be the perfect way to say goodbye to the MotorMart VW Challenge.”
The race weekend forms part of the final Extreme Festival for 2018. Spectators can purchase tickets directly from the venue on the day at: R120.00 per adult, R90.00 per student and with children under 12 years entering for free. Fans are also invited to keep track of the Needham’s results by following the Auto Sport Facebook page.
Quinton Needham would like to thank their sponsors Tron Lubricants and MotorMart Klerksdorp for the continued support. In addition, he would also like to acknowledge and thank the associate sponsors of the MotorMart VW Challenge for making this exciting category possible: Norbrake Distribution, ATE Brakes, Dicktator Engine Management Systems, Yaskawa, Pozidrive and BPM Engineering.
