Lee Thompson Racing heads to the Cape looking forward to a power weekend at Killarney’s penultimate Extreme Festival races. Charl Smalberger is keen to get his new-look Golf GTI high up on the Sasol GTC2 podium, while the team’s young and old Polo Cup pair, Delon Thompson and Simon Need are intent to carry their recent good form into the Cape.
“We have had good pace lately and my Shield/CRC/Q20 LTR Gold GTI is looking better than ever!” Charl Smalberger confirmed. “Now all I need to do is to qualify well, deliver two good races and put it on top of the Sasol GTC2 podium to make this the perfect visit to the Cape. “Lee and I have spent a lot of time preparing and I think we are ready for Killarney — the team deserves a great result — let’s do this!”
Jozi Matriculant Delon Thompson wants to capitalise on a brilliant rookie season in Cape Town as he plans to improve on his strong Polo Cup Junior championship fifth position and ninth overall in the A&R Handling LTR Polo. “I've been working hard with Lee as we chase good results for the last few races of the season,” Delon explained. “We are in a very tight overall championship and sixth is not impossible. "I really enjoyed Killarney last time so I can't wait to get back to Cape Town!”
Mauritian gentleman racer Need, had a torrid season with his Photonics LTR Polo Cup until Zwartkops where he delivered a delighted third in Masters for the day last time out. “I was delighted to bring home a decent result for Lee and the team last race and I fully intend doing more of that in Cape Town next week,” Simon promised. “I love racing in Cape Town so here’s to a brilliant weekend all-round!”
“We are looking forward to Killarney,” team boss Lee Thompson concluded. “It’s always fun to race there but we are also ready to deliver best results. So best of luck to the lads — let’s do this!”
