Seb made to work on step up to DD2
What WPMC Karting Round 1 Report
Where Killarney Kart Track
When Saturday 17 February 2018
It was three fifth-places for number triple-seven as Reigning South African Rotax Junior Max karting champion Sebastian Boyd enjoyed a tough but competitive transition to the open DD2 gearbox class on Saturday. Boyd, who made his top class debut, was in the thick of it as he enjoyed a great dice with Cape Town’s European Formula 3 star Jonathan Aberdein and his old rival Jason Coetzee at Killarney.
“It was a fairly good start,” The Camps Bay lad and SACS College Grade 10 student admitted. “I enjoyed a few good dices with Jason, Jono Thomas and Jonathan and we scored some decent points, but we have a little work to do going forward. “I struggled to get what I needed from my Boyd Boss freight Kosmic on Saturday and I need to thank my dad and uncle Les Herring for all their efforts to tune it, but this was my first race and I’m quite happy with fifth in the company we kept at Killarney on Saturday.
“It’s early days yet — we have a good idea on what we have to do and we are looking forward to a good step forward next race in three weeks time. “DD2 is going to be a hell of a class as usual this season — I’m really looking forward to a great season ahead…”
