Following a difficult Bridgestone Production Car season opener at Kyalami three weeks ago, Johan Fourie will be looking for home ground advantage as he and his IndyOil crew defend their Class A Championship title. Round two of the nine round championship will take place at Killarney on 13 March 2010.
Johan experienced severe tyre difficulties in two of the three Kyalami races. It was discovered after the race event that the front right shock had developed a leak and was likely the cause of Johan’s handling problems.
“It was a very disappointing start to the season. I think that the shock was damaged when I hit the curb on turn 13. The top of the shock was dislodged and the fluid began to leak out, causing a loss of pressure. We have also been in consultation with Bridgestone’s technical team to ensure that we do not have the same problem in Cape Town,” remarked Johan.
Killarney has however always served to boost Johan’s championship standings. In 2009, Johan took two out of a possible four wins and a second place at the Western Cape circuit.
“I have always enjoyed racing at Killarney and know the circuit well. My efforts are always enhanced by the support of the Cape Town crowd. Something I am honoured to receive,” commented Johan.
Added to Johan’s home ground advantage is the fact that the Kyalami winners will now be carrying success ballast, while he has lost 10kgs.
“Although the weight isn’t much, I will take every advantage I can over the competition. I believe that the BMW 335is still have some performance in reserve but the normally aspirated vehicles will gain a greater advantage at sea-level,” concluded Johan.
Johan and his IndyOil crew look forward to meeting Cape Town fans at Killarney on 13 March 2010.
